Ladera Ranch, CA – Republican thought leader and popular former statewide candidate for Controller Lanhee Chen today announced his endorsement of Matt Gunderson for California’s 49th Congressional District.
“Matt Gunderson’s commitment to common-sense solutions for our country’s greatest challenges makes him the clear choice to represent San Diego and Orange County in Congress,” said Chen. “Washington needs a problem solver like Matt Gunderson to deliver real results for the 49th District.”
Chen is a respected policy advisor, attorney, and thought leader. Chen serves as the David and Diane Steffy Fellow in American Public Policy Studies at the Hoover Institution, Director of Domestic Policy Studies at Stanford University, and lecturer in law at Stanford Law School. He ran for California State Controller in 2022, resulting in the strongest performance by a statewide Republican candidate in years.
In his race for Controller, Chen won the 49th Congressional District by over 6%, receiving more than 53% of the vote over his opponent, incumbent Democrat Malia Cohen.
“I’m proud to have the endorsement of someone whose message of limited government, fiscal responsibility, and common-sense solutions resonated so deeply with the voters of the 49th Congressional District,” said Gunderson. “I will reduce inflation and get our economy back on track. That means lower taxes and lower cost-of-living for Southern California’s working families,” added Gunderson.
Chen’s endorsement follows Gunderson’s recently announced endorsement by former Congresswoman Mimi Walters
