Republican Matt Gunderson Announces Candidacy for Congress in California’s 49th District

Ladera Ranch, CA – Orange County businessman Matt Gunderson today announced his candidacy for Congress against progressive Democrat Mike Levin in California’s 49th District.

“It’s clear that career politicians aren’t solving the problems our community faces today,” said Gunderson. “I’m not a politician. I know what it takes to build businesses and raise a family here in California, and I’m ready to bring my real-world experience to Washington to get our economy back on track and solve skyrocketing inflation and rising cost-of-living.”

An accomplished businessman, Matt Gunderson opened his first auto dealership in 2000 in Orange County. He built two more dealerships from scratch, eventually employing 185 Californians. Gunderson graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Madison and holds a master’s in business administration from the University of Chicago

Longtime residents of the district, Matt and his wife Margo live in Ladera Ranch with their four daughters.

“It’s getting harder and harder to survive in California thanks to the failed policies of far-left politicians like Mike Levin,” Gunderson said. “Too many middle-class families are fleeing the state they’ve called home their whole lives. It’s time to end the inflation crisis, cut taxes, hold criminals accountable, and pass term limits to get rid of the career politicians who got us into this mess.”

The district spans San Diego and Orange County, running along 47 miles of Southern California’s most beautiful coastline. It includes the communities of Laguna Niguel, Dana Point, San Juan Capistrano, San Clemente, Oceanside, Vista, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Solana Beach, and Del Mar.
